Students must demonstrate understanding of how
to create learning environments that complement the use of technology in
teaching.
12.1 Develop performance tasks that require
students to:
(a) locate and analyze information as well as draw conclusions and
(b) use a variety of available and appropriate media to communicate results
clearly
This is a one-week unit plan in which students work
collaboratively to analyze a top-40 song and present it to the class.
Too often students are bored with music lessons that deal
with classical music or other styles that aren't appealing to the
students. This unit plan allows the students to choose one of their favorite
songs and analyze such aspects as lyrics, style, and instrumentation. It is a great way to ensure that the students
remain interested in the lesson, in turn, making music class more fun.

available to effectively and appropriately collect information about student
learning.

At the beginning of the school
year, the band students at
Parents of Apple Valley Middle School Band members are
encouraged to read the handbook and also to maintain frequent communication
with the band director. The parents play
a vital role in the development of these young musicians and without their
cooperation the music program will show little or no progress.

Musicianship basics is a lesson plan for students in
age groups ranging from grades 5-10.
This
particular site provides a lesson plan that addresses music fundamentals and
teaches with audio-visual samples. It
teaches students to recognize note names on the piano and staff, note values,
and common symbols used in music.
