components of the AVMS band handbook)
FORWARD
The purpose of this handbook is to provide information about the
band program at AVMS. To consistently
achieve and maintain the high standards of excellence desired by this
organization, members should familiarize themselves with the regulations and
procedures of this band.
PHILOSOPHY
Attitude is important. No team or group has ever achieved great
success without the full cooperation, dedication, and input of each
member. Our mission is to make our band
better. Remember that this is our band;
it will become what we make it.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Practice at home
-Come to class with a good attitude
-Come to class on time
-Bring everything you need to class
-Give 100% during each class
-Show respect to other band members
GRADING
Students' grades will be determined by
the following factors:
-students' attention, cooperation,
participation, and effort in class
-average of daily grades and playing
tests
-practice reports
-attendance at scheduled concerts
REHEARSAL
PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES
-Every band member should bring
instrument, music, and pencil to every rehearsal and performance.
-There is to be no talking or
disturbance during rehearsals.
-Gum, food, and drinks are not
permitted in the band room/auditorium at any time.
-Each students should be seated in
their proper seat at the designated time.
-Good playing posture is of utmost
importance.
-Music should be placed in order
according to the instructions on the chalkboard.
-Music folders, instruments, and
equipment should be kept in their proper storage places when not in use.
-Students should sit quietly and wait
for the director to start the class.
-Students should do their best to take
care of the equipment in the band room.
USE AND CARE OF
MUSIC
-Do not fold, tear, or otherwise
mutilate music.
-Pencils should be used instead of ink
to make notes in music.
-Each student is responsible for their
own music folder which will be provided by the director.
-Frequent inspection will take place
to ensure that each student has all music and that the music is cared for
properly.
CONCERT/PERFORMANCE
INFORMATION
Concerts are a very important part of
the AVMS Band Program and are a major part of a band students musical
development. All band concerts are
mandatory and will count for 35% of the students' grade.
CONCERT ATTIRE
Students will wear white dress
shirts. Boys should wear black pants and
girls should wear black pants/skirt/dress.
Both boys and girls should wear black socks/hose and black shoes (no
tennis shoes).

STUDENT/PARENT
AGREEMENT
After this handbook has been read, the
band member and his/her parents should sign below and return this portion to
the band director. Keep the handbook for
future reference. It is hoped that
students and parents will review this handbook together and fully understand
the policies, schedules, and opportunities available for band members at AVMS.
